Hats off to the Hospital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) Rehabilitation team – they have taken it to the next level! 

While visiting with our partners at HAS today, we traveled with part of a rehab team, led by Haitian physical therapist, Nathalie.  She received her training in the Dominican Republic and even though her husband continues to live there, she wanted to move back to her home country to share her new skills.

Together we scaled mountains, reaching patients that would otherwise not receive the rehabilitation they need.

Last week, we had a team at the pediatric burn unit of Aproquen in Managua, Nicaragua. Gretchen Carrougher, a nurse from Seattle, and Dr. Lisa Tropez-Arceneaux, a psychologist from New Orleans, began working immediately after their arrival. 

Gretchen made a brief presentation on the progress made since her first visit to Nicaragua.  The nurses have made tremendous strides in wound care, assessment and management of pain and collaborating with other members of the team.
