Hats off to the Hospital Albert Schweitzer (HAS) Rehabilitation team – they have taken it to the next level! 

While visiting with our partners at HAS today, we traveled with part of a rehab team, led by Haitian physical therapist, Nathalie.  She received her training in the Dominican Republic and even though her husband continues to live there, she wanted to move back to her home country to share her new skills.

Together we scaled mountains, reaching patients that would otherwise not receive the rehabilitation they need.

Delegates from 84 countries gathered this week in Hyderabad India for the 14th International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) World Congress to share ideas and collaborate in the multidisciplinary field of rehabilitation. Yesterday, while at the conference, we heard about all of the rehabilitative work going on in Latin America, Nepal, India and Malaysia, just to name a few.

January 12, 2010, an unforgettable date to all of those who live in Haiti.  On that day at 16:53 local time, an earthquake with a devastating magnitude of 7.0 occurred.  Its epicenter was approximately 16 miles west of Port-au-Prince, Haiti's capital.  The earthquake caused major damage in Port-au-Prince, Jacmel and other areas of the region.  Many notable landmark buildings were significantly damaged or destroyed, including the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly building and the Port-au-Prince Cathedral.  Some of these landmark buildings have yet to be rebuilt.  Physicians for... read more
