Supply Drives

Providing much-needed medical supplies and materials to our partners in underserved regions is a core element of our model and we appreciate our many supporters who provide valuable in-kind donations.  If you are interested in making such a donation, we thank you for your generosity, but please understand that it’s critically important to contact our office before collecting items or making plans for a donation of materials and supplies.  While there are significant unmet needs, Physicians for Peace employs rigorous screening methods to ensure our donations are high quality and appropriate for our in-country partners’ needs and resources.  We work tirelessly to ensure we don’t burden our partners with supplies they can’t use or maintain.

We have an extensive wish list that details the types of in-kind donations we accept. Although items come in year-round from a variety of sources, we also depend on various groups to hold supply drives to help fulfill these needs and spread awareness. Coordination is simple. Here are some tips from supporters who have already organized successful supply drives:

The More the Merrier

The supply drive should involve dedicated people, some good music, and lots of fun.

Get the Word Out
Make eye-catching posters with all of the details and hang them locally, everywhere (with permission). You don't need to be a Picasso. Anything bright and colorful will stand out. To make the word spread faster - go viral - trend it on Twitter and make an open Facebook event!
Pump Up the WOW Factor
Have fun with your drive. Decorate the supply collection boxes so they grab everyone's attention. Make a custom "team" design for your drive to put on all the boxes, posters and even T-shirts.
Simplify It
We all tend to avoid doing things that require us to go out of our way. If it's simple, easy to reach and there are already people present - half your work is already done. Make the instructions for donors easy, too!
Be Picky
Discard damaged items. Please note that we cannot accept expired or open medications.
Post It
People want to know their contribution made a difference. End the drive by letting everyone know how many supplies were collected, send a picture of the total collection (tweet it and Facebook it) and give a special thanks to everyone who helped. Send us a picture, too, so we can post it on our Facebook and tell your story to all of our fans.
