Every year, we celebrate their work at our fall gala and honor three of them with a special award. Winners of this award are steadfast ambassadors for Physicians for Peace, furthering our mission both in the field and at home.

About two months after my son was born last year, I noticed that he was fussy and tugging at his ears. As a new mother, my instinct was to trump off to his pediatrician’s office, to confirm that he had an ear infection. He prescribed an antibiotic dose to clear it up. While not thrilled at the prospect of giving my newborn a drug therapy, we returned home and I prepared the initial dose.

Physicians for Peace received a gift Thursday that will help those injured by the typhoon in the Philippines. Before Super Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines, we were already working to fulfill a need for prosthetic limbs in the country. Last year, Physicians for Peace helped 700 amputees.
After the storm ravaged the country, the need grew exponentially. One of our clinics in the Philippines is located in an area hit hard by the typhoon, and we aren't sure the extent of the damage at this point.

Physicians for Peace Receives Major Grant to Provide Vision Screenings for Filipino Children
Norfolk, VA – (August 27, 2013) Physicians for Peace has received a $130,000 grant to provide vision care to impoverished children in the Philippines. With this award, Physicians for Peace will expand its vision care program, improving the lives of significantly more children. According to the World Health Organization, 80 percent of all visual impairment can be avoided or cured with access to eye care services.

$2.5 Million in Prosthetics Pledged by Ability Prosthetics
Ability Prosthetics and Orthotics is accelerating their efforts to donate $2.5 million in reconditioned prosthetics. This is happening along with Otto Bock Healthcare of Germany who has offered assistance as well. Physicians for Peace will be the recipient of this incredible donation and further our efforts in the Philippines. The need for this type of donation had grown immensely after Typhoon Haiyan.
